2017 " John Cadwallader Memorial" GETA Summer Doubles League

The 2017 "John Cadwallader Memorial" GETA Summer Doubles League is again just around the corner…DON'T MISS OUT!

The 21st year of the Summer Doubles League will be starting up soon, with the first scheduled matches planned for late May or early June. Matches will be played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6:00pm. The matches will be played at the tennis courts in Pirozzolo Park (West Elmira) and depending on the number of teams entered, Ernie Davis Academy courts off Hoffman Street, and the Horseheads High School courts.

The number of divisions and matches will be dependent on how many teams enter the league. As we have done in past years, we will have an "A", "B", "C", and "D" division (depending on interest).

To determine what division you should consider playing in, you can use the attached file showing descriptions of the USTA NTRP rating scale. See below the different NTRP levels as they would align with the division in the doubles league:

"A" division - NTRP rating of 4.0 or greater
"B" division - NTRP rating of 3.5 to 3.99
"C" division - NTRP rating of 3.0 to 3.49
"D" division - NTRP rating of less than 3.0

Each team can consist of a maximum of five players (including a captain). The team entry fee again will be $25.00 and each team member MUST also be a member of GETA. A 2017 GETA membership (January 1 - December 31, 2017) is $30 for a family, $20 individual, or $10 student (membership form attached). Additionally, any player 17 years old and younger will need to have a medical emergency form completed, also attached. The team fee, GETA memberships for all players on a team, and any medical forms MUST be turned into the league BEFORE the first match. Team captains are responsible to see that this gets done.

Teams finishing in the top four positions in each division will play in a season ending tournament to determine the league division champions.

Last year 30 teams (136 players) battled it out during the summer. Here are the results of the finals from 2016:

A Division
Somebody Else's Troubles defeated Net Rush 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 10-4

B Division
Chaos defeated Two Generations 6-3, 6-4

Congratulations to Steve Forrest (captain), Don Sherman, Tom Linhart, Satchal Waters, and Tim Klee of Somebody Else's Troubles and to John Griffin (captain), Andre Rudic, Michael Ruotolo, and Mark Klemick of Chaos for pulling out hard fought wins.

Please start organizing your team early (maximum of five players per team). The entry deadline is Friday, May 13th. Click here for the team registration form. If you know of others who did not play in the league last year and think they would like to play, ask them to call me (607) 425-2799 or email at
